Birch Bayh was perhaps the single
worst big spending, anti-gun, liberal Senator ever elected from
Indiana.
This Moderate in Name Only Votes Conservative Only When His Vote Doesn't Matter. It made no sense for Indiana to send President Bush to Washington by a large margin and then, in 2004, elect a Senator who voted against him 45% of the time in 2003 and voted with Clinton 94% of the time in 1999 and 2000. Did Clinton believe in "Hoosier Values"? Listen to Bayh praise Clinton's values as his own. In 2004 Bayh flat out lied about his opponent. His add accused Marvin Scott of personal attacks and lying about his record. In fact Scott's add had no personal attacks and was 100% accurate about Bayh's record. That means the only liar was the man who said "My name is Evan Bayh and I approved this message." E-verify is a simple voluntary way for employers to check for illegal aliens. In an example of two-faced voting March 3, 2009 Bayh voted for it when his vote was not needed, but July 8, 2009 he voted against it when it looked like it would pass, which it did. So much for protecting Hoosier Jobs. For years Bush warned Congress that we needed to tighten regulations on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to prevent a finacial melt down. Bayh sat on the banking commitee that regulates these companies and did nothing except collect over $41,000 in campaign donations from them during his tenure. So much for Hoosier jobs and pensions. In March of 2004 he voted to extend the so called Assault Weapons Ban, close down gun shows, ban common solid core hunting bullets for rifles, and allow mayor Bloomberg to continue his campain to bankrupt gun companies with frivolous lawsuits. After over 5 years in the Senate we finally found out where he stands on gun control. So Much for Hoosier Gun Owners. Bayh voted to keep common sense consevative justices Roberts and Alito off of the Supreme Court. He even voted to filibuster Alito to block a vote on his confirmation. But he threw his support behind anti-gun, anti-free speech judge Sodomayer. So much for "Hoosier Values". Learn more. In 2006 Bayh opposed extending President Bush's tax cuts and since then has voted for tens of thousands of earmarks, including his own, and trillions of dollars in reckless spending in bills no one had time to read. So much for fiscal responsibility. On Dec. 3, 2009 he voted to cut 400 billion dollars from Medicare. On Dec. 24, 2009 he upped that to 500 Billion Dollars when he voted for Health Care Reform. So much for Hoosier Seniors and quality Health Care in America. The Indianapolis Star reported that Bayh gave a "rousing speech' to convince moderate democrats to vote for Health Care Reform. So much for his pledge not to support a bill that increased the deficit. The 1/25/10 Rasmussen Poll showed 60% of Hoosiers oppose ObamaCare. So much for representing his constituents. On July 26, 2009 the AP reported that "Bayh, D-Ind., contends that the $2.1 million his wife, Susan, earned by serving on the boards of public health care companies from 2006 to 2008 represents no conflict of interest." So much for Bayh's opinion of Hoosier gullability. In 2008 he voted for Cap and Trade which could tripple the cost of electricty. So much for Hoosier Electric Bills. He has voted against offshore drilling and drilling in ANWHR and the energy page of his web site 1/1/2010 doesn't have a word about increasing US oil production. So much for Hoosier Gas Prices. Bayh gets most of his PAC money from big business and Lawyers. So much for loyalty to labor. Bayh gets most of his money from out of state. In 2009 he got more money from New York, Texas, and California than Indiana. So much for loyalty to Indiana. Bayh voted to provide Federal funding for abortions. So much for Hoosiers who believe in the sanctity of life. Bayh voted against the Amendment to protect marriage as a union of one man and one woman. So much for Christian marriage in Indiana. Bayh voted to ban organizations like the NRA, Christian Coalition, ACLU, Planned Parenthood, and Labor Unions from buying advertisements criticizing Senators within 60 days of an election (Campaign Finance Reform). What part of "Congress shall make no law" doesn't he understand. Project Vote Smart asks each candidate to answer a questionaire about their positions on the issues. Stealth liberal candidate Bayh refused to answer the questions in '04 and has not done so yet for this election. So much for openness and honesty.

Democrat This candidate didn't have enough signatures to get on the ballot. The Democrats will pick a candidate in June. Tamyra d'Ippolito Republican Don Bates Richard Behney Former Congressman John Hostettler State Senator Marlin Stutzman
With that margin of error it puts Hostettler even with Bayh. Former Senator Dan Coats got on the ballot at the last minute
